The Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo Northern Province,

St. Charles Convent, Burigora

Heeding the call of Christ to go to the peripheries where the people are ignorant and suffering the sisters have moved out to the diocese of Jhemshedpur pitching their tent amidst the poor in the tribal region of Kolhan at Burigora in Chakradharpur. We are deeply grateful to Rt. Rev. Felix Toppo the Bishop of Jhemshedpur and to Rev. Fr. Prabhu Who have been instrumental in inviting us and having given a place to stay and serve the people there. The community was established on the 15th of June 2014. The sisters work with the Ho – Munda tribes of the locality who are mostly primitive in their ways and culture. Srs. Annie Kurian, Kanchan Kerketta and Anjubala were the pioneers of the mission. The sisters first stayed in one of the mud houses of the villagers. Now they have shifted to another house which has got a little more facility. The diocese is already making plans to build a residence for the sisters which we hope to realize in one year’s time. The sisters live in total solidarity with the people, involving themselves along with the people in various social upliftment and awareness programmes. The medical facilities being nil , the sisters try to reach out to them and save many lives who are also in the clutches of superstitions & ignorance. The people are educated through awareness programmes on health, hygiene daily visits, self help groups, etc. the sisters also take evening coaching classes for the school going and other children. The committed service and undaunted courage of the sisters is well appreciated the people and the diocese.

Here we have a diocesan school from L.k G to Class X ( CB S E) . The sistrs collaborate with the diocese in teaching in the school, and in pastoral activities. The headmaster Rev. Fr. Vianny is very understanding and co operative. The sisters carry on the compassionate mission of education and take care of the children and the people entrusted to them. The sisters live in total solidarity with the people, involving themselves along with the people in various social upliftment and awareness programmes.
