Our first mission station in North India in Jharkhand at Kuru was a gift to the Church of Chotanagpur on the occasion of the tricentenary celebration of our congregation The then provincial Sr. Rene, took the initiative and contacted the Pallotine Provincial Fr. Tonny Kolbe to start the proceedings for opening the convent. The sisters arrived at Jangi on 11th November 1983.Srs. Josita, Stan & Clotilda were the pioneers. They were cordially welcomed by the villagers in their traditional style with dance drums & washing of hands. The Holy Mass was celebrated in the house of the Mukya. His Grace Aechbishop Pius Kerketta S.J along with 10 priests and many sisters Ursulline & St. Anns. were present for the occasion. The only catholic presence of the locality was Mrs. Lalita wife of the Mukya.
The local Mukya Mr. Sahdev Bagath kindly gave his home for the first community for about 6 months. The pallotine fathers Rev. Fr. Robert Abele and George Augustine and William Bara assisted us in all the ways for the purchase of land and our further settlement and construction of the convent From then on the two communities are closely associated in all the apostolic endevours of the parish and the locality.
Having realized that the dire need of the place was a school and so a began a Hindi medium school on the 16th of January 1984 with 160 students. Since the villages were very far they also started a hostel for the girls with 3 girls initially. Gradually to cater to the much neglected health needs of the people a health centre also was started . The convent building was blessed on 13.01.1985 by His Grace Bishop Pius Kerketta. The first superior and principal Sr. Josita was followed by late Sr. Annmary who paased away in the year 1989 in Chennai.
On 20.04.1988 the tribal hostel for the girls was inaugurated. As the years passed the need for providing better quality education to the tribal children was felt, and in 2007 June an English medium school was started with 26 children. After long years of struggle the Hindi medium school has attained recognition from the Jharkhand government in 2016 and the English medium school has reached class VII as a branch school of the Hindi medium. There is a heavy rush for admissions and we have good strength in both the schools. The tribal boarding caters to more than 100 tribal girls and most of them are helped for their studies through sponsorships.
