The Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo Northern Province,

St. Charles Provincialate - Hatia ,Ranchi

The origin & growth

The Hatia Provincialate that stands out as a welcoming house to all our sisters at Ranchi today had its simple beginning at Burdwan Compound Ranchi in 1989. The Pioneers were Srs. Sabina Kurian, Clotilda D’Souza & Lizzy James along with our four candidates Mukti Saroj Minj, Rita Tigga , Lucy Kujur and Benedicta Kujur of whom the first three are with us proclaiming the good news of the Lord having committed themselves to God. This has welcomed many a candidate who aspired to become religious. Later while interacting with the people, we felt the need of having a preparatory school and the then provincial Late Sr. Rene D’Souza a courageous and adventurous sister took the lead along with Sr. Stan who is equally committed to find a proper piece of land in Hatia in 1994. Rev. Mother Andrea the then Superior General rendered full support to build a big house at Hesag , Hatia in view of the growth of the Chotanagpur Mission and later this house could serve as headquarters for the North Province. The blessing of the house at Hesag, Hatia was held in May 1996 by late Bishop Stephen Tiru.

Provincial House:-

“Arise Jeruselem ; and shine like the sun, the glory of the Lord is shining on you”

12th Jan 2003 was a red letter day in the history of Hatia community. On this great day of rejoicing & thanksgiving a new Province was erected in the name of Northern Province of the Sisters of St. Charles. The 1st provincial was Sr. Christine Vaz with her councilors Srs. Sabina Kurian, Elizabeth Chacko, Harriet Kispotta & Sally Augustine. The province activities are monitored from this house as the provincial resides in this house. The school has grown up to be a full pledged ICSE school from Nursery to K.G with 1600 students on roll. The school caters to the lower middle class belt of Adivasi children offering them quality education & good moral foundation. We have also the candidacy here where the young formees spend a year of initial formation to religious life. We have 15 candidates & 10 sisters residing in this house. The sisters also engage themselves in socio pastoral activities & help the poor & needy children of the school.
